Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar inspector booked for stalking constable, DG Insignia revoked
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Begumpura police station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city on Tuesday booked an inspector-rank officer under section 78 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Senior officers said an FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by a 34-year-old constable. Incidentally, the inspector booked in the FIR had been awarded the prestigious DG Insignia just a day earlier, on Monday.
When contacted, police commissioner Pravin Pawar told TOI, "An FIR has been registered against the inspector and based on it, a report was immediately sent to the state police headquarters. Subsequently, his DG Insignia medal too was revoked."
Senior officials confirmed that an FIR was registered but refused to comment on the issue, claiming that things would become clear only after the investigation is completed.
According to the complaint lodged by the constable, on April 9, the inspector sent her a message with his photograph along with a heart emoji on the photo. The constable took strong objection to it and soon raised the issue with her seniors in the department. This was followed by a preliminary inquiry, after which the Begumpura police registered an FIR.
When contacted, the inspector said, "I did not stalk anyone. The allegations levelled against me are false and baseless. The FIR was registered either due to a grudge or a misunderstanding. The truth will come out after a due investigation. I am ready to face any investigation and departmental inquiry."
Sources said the probe has been handed over to a woman police officer.
